BATTERY WARRANTY

ALL SERIES

This is to advise you that Delco has recently revised the Buick Owners’ Delco Battery Warranty and Adjustment Policy and, for certain types of services, increased the users’ adjustment period.

Heretofore the adjustment policy on batteries used in commercial car service, such as salesmen’s cars, taxicabs, airport limousines, station wagons, etc., was measured in units of service, a unit of service being 1,000 miles, or 1/2 month, whichever occurred first.

The new, more liberal, Warranty and Adjustment Policy on Delco batteries used in the above-mentioned types of service is still measured in units of service, however, a unit of service is now 1,000 miles, or one full month, whichever shall first occur, thereby, giving these Buick users the same warranty and adjustment privileges as that enjoyed by the owner of the ordinary family passenger car.

This more liberal Warranty and Adjustment Policy has been made possible because of Delco’s consistently proven higher quality through actual performance in all kinds of services.

Following is the newly revised paragraph 3 (a) and (b) as it will now appear in the “Buick Owners’ Delco Battery Service Policy.”

The service received from a Delco Battery covered by this Standard Warranty and Adjustment Policy is measured in UNITS 0F SERVICE, that is, thousands of miles or number of months. A unit of service is based upon the type of service in which the car is used as follows:

  • Passenger Car Service (ordinary family driving) 1,000 miles or one month, whichever shall first occur.
  • Commercial Car Service (including taxicabs and passenger cars used by salesmen), 1,000 miles or one month, whichever shall first occur.

HOOD SAFETY PRECAUTION

ALL SERIES

As an added caution, when working under any spring- held, alligator type hood, use a brace. This brace can be readily purchased or made from a broom or utility handle. When propped under an open hood it will afford maximum protection to the mechanic working beneath it.

RIGHT HAND DRIVE CONVERSION

ALL SERIES, 1952 & 1953 Buicks

A few cases have been brought to our attention where Buick customers were informed that it would be possible to convert their 1952 or 1953 Buick cars to right hand drive. These cases have been prevalent among military personnel going overseas. We again wish to state that NO right hand drives were, or are to be, built in 1952 or 1953. No engineering has been done on this conversion and, therefore, there is no information on how it could be done. In conjunction with this, the Parts Department does not have any parts available for making this right hand drive conversion on 1952 or 1953 Buicks.

It is, therefore, suggested that all personnel connected with giving out this type of information be correctly informed on this subject.

OIL DYE

At various times we have received requests for a material that could be used to color either the engine or Dynaflow transmission oil so that the source of oil leaks could be determined definitely.

We have succeeded in making arrangements with the Eaton Chemical and Dyestuff Company of 1490 Franklin Street, Detroit 7, Michigan to supply their Analine dye “Oil Red OS” in one pound cans at $4.00 a pound FOB Detroit.

This is a perfectly harmless dye when used in either motor oil or Dynaflow oil. One teaspoon of the dye powder should be pre-mixed with approximately one-half pint of oil and then installed in the unit desired. Subsequent operation of the car should then indicate the source of the leak.

You may order the dye directly from the Eaton Chemical and Dyestuff Company.

FLAT RATE MANUAL V-8 ENGINE SECTION IDENTIFICATION

In order to eliminate the possibility of mistakes between the Straight 8 and V-8 engine Operations and their times, it is suggested that pages 39 through 50 in the 1953 Chassis Flat Rate Manual be marked. By writing” V-8 Engine Section” on the top of these pages, the possibility of making this error will be eliminated.
