ENGINE STAND

The Kent-Moore engine stand developed for the 1953 V -8 engine will not work on the 1957 engines. The bolt circle for the engine to Dynaflow bolts has been reduced for the 1957 engine. This means that the cast raised flange on the engine adapter plate, which is a flat ground surface, will not fully contact the mounting surface on the engine and the bolt holes are off location. Extreme care must be exercised in the design and development of an adapter plate as the block will be distorted if it is not properly held. Normally the engine is supported at the front and at the rear of the Dynaflow. When the engine is held in the stand, it is hung by the flange on the engine.

In response to numerous dealer requests, Kent Moore has resumed production of a heavy duty engine stand similar to J -5280. This stand may be ordered under part number J -6345 without adapter plate at $281.00. An adapter plate for Buick V -8, J-8208, is available at $48.50. These items may be ordered direct from Kent-Moore Organization, Inc., 1501 S. Jackson Street, Jackson, Michigan.

GAS-PER-MILE GAUGE USAGE

The Kent-Moore Gas-Per-Mile Gauge, J-4866-A will work satisfactorily on the 1957 engines by removing the gas hose connecting the fuel pump to the carburetor and connecting the hose of the tester directly to the fitting on the fuel pump and carburetor. This procedure eliminates the necessity of using any threaded fittings except those in the carburetor and pump.

INSPECTION OF LIFTING EQUIPMENT

Reports are occasionally received concerning the failure of certain pieces of lifting or holding equipment used in dealerships. Fortunately, we know of no one being injured as a result of these failures although some severe damage to cars and equipment has been reported.

In order that accidents of this type may be held to a minimum, it is highly recommended that a program be established in each dealer Service Department to periodically inspect all equipment of this type. An inspection of welded sections, pins, and threaded nuts will reveal parts that should be replaced or repaired before serious consequences result. In the cases that have been brought to our attention, a periodic inspection would have prevented the complete failure of the parts and the subsequent inspection of other equipment uncovered additional parts requiring replacement or repairs. Safety is everyone’s business, however, it must be practiced to produce results.

AXLE SHAFT BEARING PULLER

During the past year five special articles have been written on the subject of J -6191, Axle Shaft Bearing Puller. In the face of these many cautions, there are still instances where the tool is being broken.

Kent-Moore has now discontinued the manufacture of this product and has superceded it with J -6525, Axle Shaft Bearing Puller. The new tool is of cast alloy steel and is a much heavier unit. It pulls through the retainer plate and can generally be expected to damage this plate. The tool will satisfactorily pull all General Motors Wheel Bearings and can be used with your present power equipment.

The price of this improved puller is $24.35. Any dealer who has a J -6191 plate and desires to exchange it for this new tool will be given credit in the amount of $9.50 (the original program group price) against the new tool. This applies of course, to broken or unbroken J -6191 plates. The J -6191 should be returned to Kent-Moore Organization, Inc. 1501 S. Jackson St., Jackson, Michigan, and a letter should accompany it authorizing shipment of a J -6525, Puller, for the exchange cost.
